Dr. John K. Char is a holistic dentist, a homeopathic physician of natural medicine and a certified licensed massage therapist. He is the executive director of the College Clinic for Biolife. Char graduated from Iolani high school in 1954 and continued his education at Creighton
University where he received his dental degree, DDS, at the Boyne School of Dentistry in 1961. He served as a dentist in the United Dental Corp at the naval training center in San Diego from 1961 to 1963. Char continued his schooling at the Anglo American Institute of Drugless Therapy and received his doctorate in homeopathy in 1983 and his PhD in natural medicine from the British Guild of Drugless Therapy in 1984. Dr. Char graduated from the Hawaii College of Clinical Massage in 1996. In 2002, he received his certification in Emotional Freedom Techniques.
Char authored Holistic Dentistry Volumes I and II and Electro-acupuncture in 1981 and has written articles in various professional journals. He also has lectured nationally and internationally on Temporomandibular Joint Pain and Alternative and Complementary Medicine and has appeared on radio and television talk shows. In 1990, he produced Seven Head Neck and TMD Diagnostic, Treatment and Insurance Medical and Dental software.
In 1999, Char developed the Comprehensive Emotion Techniques protocol, (CET), a technique that eliminates stress and anxiety using non-invasive alternative modalities. Char is a charter member of the American Holistic Dental Association since 1974 and the organizer of the International College of Cranial Mandibular Orthopedics. He served as the president of the Honolulu County Dental Society in 1975.
As an active member of the United States Jaycees in 1963 he led the Chinese Jaycees to the number one chapter in Hawaii and served as the Congress Director for the XXVI Junior Chamber International in 1967. In 1971 to 1973, he served the City and County of Honolulu as a liquor commissioner and later served as the chairman of the Acupuncture State Board of Examiners from 1983 to 1985. Char currently holds the rank as instructor, third degree black belt in the
Universal Kempo Karate Association Schools. He served as vice president and director of the Newtown Estates. He currently is the vice
president for Public Relations for the Sounds of Aloha menís a capella chorus.
